Nairobi is once again cracking down on nightclubs still operating in residential areas. In a memo dated August 17, Nairobi Regional Commissioner Katee Mwanza ordered all Deputy County Commissioners to take legal action against owners of the businesses. The circular raises concern that some clubs continue to operate with the help of corrupt law enforcement officials. The new instructions mandate that Deputy County Commissioners produce a list of the nightclubs and bars that are open in residential areas within their sub-counties by Friday. The Registrar of Societies has canceled the registration of Newlife Prayer Centre and Church linked to Pastor Ezekiel Odero who was recently at the center of a money laundering and cult investigation. Abigail Jo Shry, 43, allegedly phoned the court in Washington DC on 5 August and used a racial slur in her message for US District Judge Tanya Chutkan. A Canadian woman has been jailed for 22 years in the US for sending letters laced with ricin poison, including to Donald Trump when he was president. Pascale Ferrier, 56, agreed to the sentence in January after pleading guilty to biological weapons charges. Police in eastern Pakistan arrested 129 Muslims after a mob angered by an alleged Quran desecration attacked a dozen churches and nearly two dozen homes of minority Christians, officials said Thursday. At least two suspected drug mules were Thursday arrested in an anti narcotics police operation in Harambee, Buruburu and cocaine valued at about Sh2 million found on them. The two were also found with more than Sh4 million in cash, three test tubes and a digital weighing machine, police said.
