Police in eastern Pakistan arrested 129 Muslims after a mob angered by an alleged Quran desecration attacked a dozen churches and nearly two dozen homes of minority Christians, officials said Thursday. Police also arrested the two Christian men suspected of defacing the Quran. The alleged desecration sparked violence in the city of Jaranwala in the Faisalabad district on Wednesday, where Christians quickly moved to safer places as the mob rampaged. President William Ruto has nominated Andrew Mukite Musangi as the next Chairperson of the Central Bank of Kenya. The head of state on Thursday forwarded Musangi’s name to the National Assembly for vetting. “The President seeks the approval of the Parliament on the said nomination,” said National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula. Should MPs approve his nomination, Musangi will replace lawyer Mohammed Nyaoga whose four-year tenure ended in June. President William Ruto Thursday nominated Renson Mulele Ingonga as the next Director of Public Prosecutions. Mulele was based at Garissa as the local in charge of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Ruto Thursday forwarded his name to National Assembly for vetting. Ruto picked Ingonga from a list of 15 individuals interviewed for the position by the Public Service Commission. If approved, Ingonga will replace Noordin Haji. At least two suspected drug mules were Thursday arrested in an anti narcotics police operation in Harambee, Buruburu and cocaine valued at about Sh2 million found on them. The two were also found with more than Sh4 million in cash, three test tubes and a digital weighing machine, police said. The cash was in US dollars ($12,600), 15 Euros, Tzshs 24,000, 10,000 Angolan Kwanza and Sh509,495. The money was kept in a drawer in the house, police said adding they are looking for more suspects. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has termed as suicidal a move by the staff from the embassy of Egypt to get out of their vehicles at the Nairobi National Park. A junior Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) staff whose accounts were frozen wants the court to release his Sh21 million claiming the money was intended for his fiancée’s dowry. Two Nigerians who allegedly duped a Kenyan businessman and conned him over Sh60 million will remain in police custody until Friday August 18 when the court will make a ruling on bail. Two people died while seven others were admitted at the  Thika Level V Hospital after consuming Ugali prepared from flour picked from Kang’oki dump site in the Kiganjo area of Thika.
