The US Supreme Court allowed restrictions against untraceable “ghost guns” to stand while an appeal by the White House is pending. In July, a Texas court blocked a 2022 rule requiring self-assembled “ghost gun” kits to have serial numbers – legally making them a firearm. Rights groups have protested President William Ruto’s decision to sign the Protocol of the Constitutive Act of the African Union. They termed the move an affront to justice for victims of international crimes. The former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, was Tuesday barred from holding public office for five years by the country’s electoral authorities. The decision was announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan three days after Mr Khan was sentenced to three years in prison for corruption. Tuesday’s announcement means Mr Khan will be dismissed as an MP and unable to stand for public office until 2028. He maintains the charges are politically motivated. Justice Mugure Thande has been moved to Malindi in latest changes in the Judiciary. The judge was responsible for the halting of the implementation of the Finance Act 2023. The letter announcing the changes in stations for the 13 judges bears the signature of the principal judge of the high court, Justice Eric Ogola, and states that the transfers take effect on the 2nd of October this year. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has expressed Washington’s full support for the West African regional bloc Ecowas in its efforts to restore constitutional order in Niger following the recent military coup. Ecowas had given the coup leaders in Niamey a seven-day deadline to step down or face military intervention, which expired on Sunday. A German national who was charged with a number of counts of defilement and child pornography was Monday sentenced to 81 years in jail. Thomas Scheller, 74, was convicted of seven offences after the court found him guilty. A Ngong-based pastor who defiled two minors 11 years ago by using God’s name was Tuesday sentenced to 70 years in prison.
