At least six people including a 12-year-old girl were shot and killed in Kiambu during Saba Saba Day protests on Monday. The victims’ families are calling for justice over the deaths. Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji was Monday arrested over chaos witnessed in parts of Embu County during Saba Saba commemoration. His lawyer Ndegwa Njiru said the legislator was arrested at around 3:00 p.m. and booked at Kibii Police Station at 3:53 p.m. Mukunji was later picked up by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Juja Police Station. The US is set to take the Syrian Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) off its list of foreign terrorist organisations on Tuesday, according to a state department memo. Russia’s Investigative Committee says former Russian transport minister Roman Starovoit has been found dead, apparently with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was dismissed earlier on Monday by President Vladimir Putin. At least ten people were Monday killed in separate places during the Saba Saba protests held in 17 counties. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights said there were 29 injuries, two cases of abduction and 37 arrests.
