Two police officers based at Mbururu Police Post, Kakamega County have been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of a man accused of assaulting a colleague in the region. Police in Mlolongo, Machakos County, have arrested two women in a botched child trafficking deal. The mother of the baby, the police said, had agreed to sell her newborn son for Sh60,000. The child’s birth certificate indicates that he was born on September 2, 2020, at Machakos Level 5 Hospital. Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has been freed on Ksh4 million cash bail or Ksh3 million bond in the murder case lodged against her. In a ruling delivered on Friday by the Mombasa High Court, the MP’s co-accused and aide Geoffrey Otieno was granted Ksh1 million cash bail or Ksh1.5 million bond. A Nairobi court has ordered the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) to launch a probe into the alleged abduction of Liban Abdillahi Omar, a Westgate terror suspect who was acquitted on October 7. Omar was set free by presiding magistrate Francis Andayi for lack of evidence in the Westgate terror attack that left at least 67 people dead and more than 150 others injured. A prison warder has been arrested in connection with irregular sim swap scam by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). According to the DCI, Prison Constable Charles Opollo Ndaga, who is based at Prison Headquarters in Nairobi was arrested within Sinapanga Estate- Bondo Township. During the operation, the sleuths recovered over 10,000 Safaricom Sim Cards registered under different names, Two Equitel Sim Cards and three ID Cards from the warder’s house. Two schools in the Coastal region have been forced to close after 15 teachers tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo confirmed on Wednesday that 11 teachers at Tononoka High School and four at Star of the Sea High school tested positive for coronavirus. Former Police Commissioner Duncan Wachira is dead. A statement from State House revealed that Wachira died early on Wednesday morning at his Nairobi home after a long illness. The former police boss suffered a heart attack last year and was flown to India and admitted to Apollo Protocol Hospital. The number of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the country rose to 45,647 on Tuesday after 571 more people tested positive from 3,963 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The cumulative tests conducted so far stand at 627,781. In a statement, the Ministry of Health said that of the new cases 558 are Kenyans and 13 are foreigners. 361 are males and 210 females. The Homa Bay County Assembly has suspended operations for two weeks after one of its ward representatives tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease. The County’s Health department revealed that the MCA was tested in Kisumu and isolated after the positive result. The assembly’s leadership stated that the move to close the House is aimed at preventing the spread of the contagious disease.
