The government is set to hire at least 3,400 youths in the Kazi Mtaani Phase Three programme to help in the fight against malaria in the country. This was revealed on Wednesday by Willis Akhwale, a Senior Advisor at African Leaders Malaria Alliance. The officer said the youths will be deployed in 16 counties that are highly burdened by malaria. Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has asked judges to down tools in protest of the Executive’s continued disobedience of court orders. The National Police Service has released a list of roads set to be closed ahead of this year’s Standard Chartered Marathon. The international event is scheduled to take place in Nairobi on Sunday, October 31. In a statement on Thursday, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said the event shall affect transport within the city and environs, inconveniencing motorists and other road users. Property of unknown value was destroyed after a fire broke out at Kibirigwi Girls High School in Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County, Sunday night. Five out of nine dormitories in the school were razed down by the fire in the 9pm incident. Police reports indicate that 213 students out of the total 469 students at the institution were affected by the fire. Police in Kiambu are holding three security guards from Komothai Girls Secondary School following the lynching of a Form Four boy in the school last week. Brian Mbage, a 17-year-old student of Gathiruini Boys High School, was allegedly beaten up by students and members of staff after sneaking into the girls’ school at night.
