The body of an eight-year-old boy who went missing from his home in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, was recovered from River Nyando.
The deceased was a Grade One pupil at Happy Home Academy in Kopere.
His father reported the child missing after he disappeared on August 25, 2026.
The child’s body was discovered in River Nyando on Friday, prompting officers from Kopere Patrol Base and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Muhoroni to respond to the scene.
The body was retrieved from the river with the assistance of Kenya Coast Guard Service officers in Kisumu.
Police noted injuries around the child’s mouth. His father positively identified the body as that of his son.
The body was subsequently moved to Othoo Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the boy’s death.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Elsewhere, a 35-year-old fisherman drowned in the Indian Ocean while on a night fishing expedition off Mwana-Kenya Fishing Point in Lamu East Sub-County.
The deceased, Saad Mohammed Bunu, was fishing with two colleagues after leaving Myabogi Village at about 9pm on Thursday.
According to police, the three men set their fishing nets and traps in the Indian Ocean before continuing with their activities into the early hours of Friday.
At about 2am, Bunu reportedly moved towards deeper waters to untie knots on the fishing nets as his colleagues pulled the nets out in preparation for collecting the catch.
The exercise was proceeding normally when the two fishermen noticed Bunu’s torch floating on the surface of the water.
They immediately began searching for him but were hampered by strong tides pushing towards the shore.
The two returned to Myabogi Village to seek reinforcement, prompting the mobilisation of a larger search party.
At about 5am, a search team was dispatched to the fishing area and continued scouring the waters. Bunu’s body was eventually recovered at about 9am.
Police said his right leg, still in a gumboot, was found stuck in the mud.
The body was taken to Myabogi area, where a postmortem examination was conducted. Burial arrangements are currently underway.
