Siblings
Boy grew up in a large family with five siblings, four brothers Richard, Kevin, Gerald, and David O’Dowd and one sister, Siobhán O’Dowd.
Born to Irish parents Jeremiah (Jerry) and Dinah O’Dowd, George was the second of five children, with Richard being his elder half-brother, born out of wedlock in Dublin in 1957 to Dinah when she was 18.
Richard’s birth prompted Dinah to move to London to escape the stigma of being an unmarried mother.
George has described himself as the “middle, needy child,” humorously noting the “deranged” nature of middle children, particularly referencing his brother Kevin, who was born the year after him and nearly died from a tapeworm infection, which temporarily shifted family attention away from George.
