Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati could spend six months behind bars, pay a Sh300,000 fine for ignoring a court order.

The order was issued on December, 11 2017 demanding that the county boss does not interfere with the county’s Public Service Board.

A Kisumu Labour Court ordered that the board remains in office pending a ruling on February 5, 2018.

But Wangamati dismissed the board saying that it was not he but the county assembly.

“I did not send the board home. It’s the members of the assembly, who were dissatisfied by its work,” he said on December 19.

The board, appointed by the former Governor, Ken Lusaka was found guilty of nepotism, corruption and abuse of office.

The board, whose term is yet to expire through lawyer Calitus Shifoka, argued that the county boss openly disregarded the court order and should be charged with contempt of court.

”The Governor disregarded the orders of this court. We pray he is found guilty of contempt and jailed for six months,” the board’s application reads in part.
