Detectives have launched investigations into a suspected murder after a man who was found shot dead inside his vehicle in Kuria West Sub-county, Migori County.

The incident was reported on the morning of April 8, 2026 in the Tebes area, along the Kehancha–Kegonga Road near Tebes River Bridge, close to the border of Kuria West and Kuria East sub-counties, police said.

The motive of the shooting was not immediately established.

Police responded to the scene and discovered the body of a man seated in the front seat of a white Toyota Probox.

The deceased was later identified as Zacheus Maundu Mwenga, a 48-year-old resident of Nyangoto area and a mining shaft owner in the “Kwa Milka” area within Kehancha.

Police said the vehicle was found parked facing the Kehancha direction with the ignition keys still in place, although the engine was not running.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right jaw. Investigators also observed multiple bullet holes in the vehicle’s interior, with suspected exit points on the rear right door and the boot floor.

Three spent cartridges were recovered approximately five metres from the left rear side of the vehicle, suggesting the shooting may have occurred at close range.

Documents recovered from the body included an ATM card, a driving licence, and a national identity card, all bearing the deceased’s name.

The scene was processed by forensic officers, and the vehicle was preserved as an exhibit. The body was moved to Kuria West Sub-county Hospital Mortuary in Kehancha, where a post-mortem examination was expected.

Police have not yet established the motive of the killing and have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The area has been experiencing a surge in crime in general amid operations to address the same.

And a 64-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife following a domestic dispute in Rachuonyo South Sub-county, Homa Bay County.

According to police, the incident occurred on April 7, 2026, at around 1:45 a.m. in Kowidi Location, Kanyango Sub-location.

The deceased, identified as George Michael Otieno, was found lying in a pool of blood in the sitting room of his house with a stab wound at the base of the neck.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the altercation began earlier in the evening at around 8:00 p.m. when Otieno reportedly returned home while intoxicated and engaged in a quarrel with his wife.

The disagreement is said to have escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the woman allegedly stabbed him using a kitchen knife.

Police established that the couple had been married for about 20 years and had a history of longstanding domestic disputes.

Officers who responded to the scene recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife hidden under a seat near the body. The suspect was found wearing blood-soaked clothes and was immediately arrested.
