CBK Governor Thugge Turned Away By MPs Over Incomplete Report

The Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Dr. Kamau Thugge, was on Monday turned away by the National Assembly’s Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity after failing to present the required documents to support his report.

Dr. Thugge had appeared before the Committee to answer questions about ethnic diversity and equal opportunity practices at the Central Bank. However, the Committee, chaired by Mandera West MP Adan Yussuf Haji, stopped the session after finding that the CBK boss had not included necessary evidence in his submission.

“After carefully reviewing your presentation, the Committee has established that your report lacks the required supporting documents,” said Hon. Haji.

“The invitation letter clearly stated that all submissions must be accompanied by documentary evidence. Unfortunately, this requirement has not been met.”

The Committee also noted that the report had not been signed, which is a violation of parliamentary procedures.

As a result, Dr. Thugge was directed to revise and resubmit the report in line with the required standards.

He admitted the oversight and promised to comply with all requirements ahead of his next appearance.

A similar decision was made against the CEO of the Geothermal Development Company (GDC), Paul Ngugi, who was also turned away for failing to provide supporting documents for his submissions.
