County Commissioner Maalim Bans Election Related Protests in Kisumu

Kisumu County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim has unilaterally banned any form of protest in the lake side town.

According to Mohammed, the ban is as a result of the insecurity incidences witnessed before.

He added that the bans are a The public will not be allowed to conduct any protests in Kisumu during and after elections.

Kisumu County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim banned any protests citing security breach witnessed in the past.

The county commissioner has however said that he will allow any protest or demo which is not related to the elections.

It’s not clear what law or legal powers the county commissioner leans on to make such unilateral directives but we will be watching for any development. Demonstrators do not need any permission from the government by law.

Maalim made some stupid comments like he has received some intelligence reports of people planning to loot shops. He didn’t elaborate on the specifics of his said “intelligence.”

Maalim ordered police to shoot residents during the anti-IEBC demonstrations leading to many losing their lives in Kisumu as a result of police killings. The killer policemen were later transferred to other locations in the country.
