Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Eugene Wamalwa was among the lucky ones evacuated during the Leopard Beach Resort inferno that razed down the facility.

The inferno which started last night burnt five blocks of the hotel. Each block had 20 rooms. Eugene Wamalwa was one of the guests in the facility, and was transferred to the neighbouring Almanara Resort in Diani.

All the guests are reported to have been evacuated safely, with no casualties reported.

However, it is reported that several guests lost their travelling documents.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that the fire was caused by fireworks during a Hindu wedding celebration at the facility.

The fireworks reportedly fell on a ‘makuti’-thatched cottage before spreading so fast to other structures.

Confirming the incident, Msambweni OCPD Joseph Chebusit said no injuries had been reported and that efforts to put the fast razing fire were successful few minutes to 1 am.

The police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
