Kenyan international striker Dennis Oliech’s much anticipated move to South Africa’s Premier Soccer League side Free States Stars will not happen, at least for this season.

Luc Eymael, the Stars’ head coach, confirmed that he would have wished to bring on board the record Kenyan top scorer after he held trials with them but, foreigner quota rule did not allow.

The South Africa’s topflight only allows seven foreign players per team in the 16-team league.

“I lacked an extra spot for foreigners and that is the reason we did not sign a foreign striker,” the former AFC Leopards coach told Nation.

The Belgian invited Oliech for trials three months back and the ex-Mathare United player could not hide his desire to return to active football after a long time out.

“I know people are saying I cannot do this (play competitive football)…. Tell them I still have something to offer. I missed football. I have been training with teams in France and then I got this opportunity to come here (South Africa) which I am happy with,” he wrote on Facebook.

Oliech was recently appointed to the Nairobi County Sports Department.

The 33-year-old is presently mourning passing on of his mother which occurred a few weeks back .
