Eight police officers from Maseno police station, Kisumu County were arrested in connection with alleged theft of a motor vehicle.

The eight officers were detained at the Kisumu Central Police Station cells on September 22, 2025, pending further interrogation and possible arraignment.

According to the police, the officers are accused of stealing a Toyota Land Cruiser from the Maseno police station parking yard.

The vehicle had earlier been recovered while abandoned at Maseno shopping centre on September 10, 2025.

However, it later went missing from the station with the eight officers accused of being behind its mysterious disappearance.

DCI officers from Nairobi conducted the arrest of the officers on Monday evening and are locked up pending further probe and action.

The incident has raised concern within the security sector, highlighting the challenges of accountability and discipline within the ranks.

The car was stolen from outside a supermarket in Machakos Town on September 10, 2025.

Businessman Caleb Musyoka who is now he proprietor of Katto Supermarket in Machakos town reported he was driving the motor vehicle along Machakos-Kangundo heading home at Kamulu when a motorcycle hit his motor vehicle from behind.

He alighted to check on the extent of damage to his motor vehicle when he was confronted by three men where two were allegedly armed with riffles.

They blind folded him with a black polythene waste disposal paper and then bundled him in his vehicle’s boot and drove him to an unknown destination.

They stopped at an unknown place in a bush where they robbed him of a mobile phone and Sh213,000.

He found his way on foot to Machakos- Wote tarmac road where he boarded a motorcycle which brought him to the station. Police officers from the station and DCI office visited the scene before the victim was taken to hospital for attention.

The car was later found abandoned in Maseno area, Kisumu County, more than 400 kilometers away.
It has since led to the arrest of the eight cops.
