Four Kenyans were killed in a road accident on Saturday night at Tapaach along the Moroto-Napak road in Uganda.

The accident involved a delegation from West Pokot county government, Kenyan officials said.

West Pokot County Commissioner Khaliff Abdullahi has confirmed the incident and added authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash, which occurred at Chinese camp, Tapaach.

Those who died are Philemon Lotudo, who unsuccessfully vied for the Kapenguria parliamentary seat, local politician Elijah Lopuke, a former chief officer at the West Pokot county government Jackson Kariwoi and their driver Ben Plimo.

The only survivor was identified as 55-year-old Martin Komongiro, officials said.

The team, which was traveling in the vehicle had been in Uganda accompanying Pokot South MP David Pkosing on a ten-day tour in the neighboring country.

Abdullahi said two people died on the spot while two others died at a hospital in Moroto District in Uganda.

Authorities in both Kenya and Uganda coordinated the repatriation of the bodies, which have since been moved to Cherangany Mortuary in Kitale.

The survivor is also receiving medical attention at the facility in a stable condition.
