Four people suspected of stealing drugs and laboratory equipment from Machakos level 5 hospital have been arrested in Machakos County.
The four operating private clinics in the county, were busted selling an assortment drugs bearing Government of Kenya (GOK) and Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) stamps and several other medical gear.
The affected private clinics are Lugpharm and Metropolis-both located directly opposite Machakos level 5 hospital.
Medical staff operating the clinics had a tough time explaining the source of the drugs as they were ordered to close down the clinics by a team led by County Directorate of Criminal Investigations head, Rhoda Kanyi and Governor Dr Alfred Mutua.

Patients in the clinics in question were also ordered to vacate the premises as Dr Mutua vowed to intensify the raid.
The governor later proceeded to Machakos Level 5 Hospital where he directed that no patient should be referred to private clinics in an effort to curb the growing scandals.
“We have found X-ray equipment from Level 5 Hospital and government drugs in a private clinic and people claim that Universal Health Care doesn’t work because there are no drugs,” said Dr Mutua.
Detectives are now hunting for more employees who are said to have escaped arrest during the operation.
