Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed claims that president Uhuru Kenyatta has sidelined him in recent appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as chair of National Development Implementation Technical Committee.
Speaking on BBC HARDtalk show, Ruto said the claims have no basis.
The DP, however, said he was privy to the president’s recent changes in government as they were aimed at making the government more efficient.
According to Ruto, Matiang’i who supervises all government projects reports directly to him and the President.
“Those sideline stories, are stories that have no basis at all. The functions of a deputy president are in the constitution, the president and I agreed on how to make the government more efficient and to deliver,” said Ruto.
“His committee is a cabinet committee. That committee reports to the president and myself.”
“How on earth can you talk about sidelining if the same committee ultimately reports to the president and myself?” Ruto posed.
On recent remarks by former Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe that he should not run for President in 2022, Ruto claimed that was not in the position of the President.
He reiterated that he got full support of the President as Jubilee is focused in delivering to the Kenyan people.
“Murathe and other characters don’t matter to me. The only person who really matters to me in Jubilee is Uhuru,” the DP said.

“I value what he says [Uhuru] and does more than all those claimed to be used to sideline me.”
On the other hand, on claims of acquiring Weston Hotel Land illegally, Ruto said he was an innocent buyer who bought the land from people who acquired the property illegally.
“For your information, Weston Hotel was bought…,” told the host.
“Not bought illegally. In fact, for the record, the National Land Commission has made a finding that Weston was an innocent purchaser for value from somebody who got it illegally, and preparations have been made constitutionally to restore that land to Kenya Civil Aviation Authority by demanding that those who sold the land to us must pay,” said the Deputy President.
