A gold dealer was shot and killed by gunmen in a robbery incident in Kehancha, Migori County.

Police stated that the incident occurred on January 15, 2026, at night and involved a Tanzanian national identified as Leonard Lucas Mabina, 23 years old.

He sells gold both in Kenya and Tanzania. He was ambushed by four gunmen in his house in the area who demanded cash and other valuables that he had.

This prompted a confrontation. It was then that the gunmen opened fire killing him on the spot. Police said he was shot in the mouth and at close range by the assailants.

They grabbed an unknown amount of money and gold before escaping on a motorcycle towards the porous border. The area is near the Kenya-Tanzania border.

Police visited the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

The gold dealers have been targeted of late in a trend that is worrying the group. The attackers demand cash and gold from the victims.

Elsewhere in Ntharene, Imenti, Meru County, one Kaburu Mnairobi, 83 died after he was hit by a stone as he tried to separate a fight. Police said the man tried to separate a fight between two women when he was hit by a flying stone in the head.

He died in hospital and police said they are investigating murder over the same.

Police said the suspect in the murder was arrested and will be charged with murder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Mutuati, Meru County, a suspect who had attacked and injured his parents and sister was stoned to death by a mob.

The suspect used a panga to attack the victim in a dramatic incident. Police said he also attacked three responders to the scene before he was cornered and fatally stoned.

The body was moved to the mortuary while the injured who were six were taken to the local hospital for attention.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Police discourage mob lynching and term it criminal.
