A 29-year-old herdsman was shot dead while grazing livestock in the Itimba Ithei water point area of Tseikuru Sub-County, Kitui County, in an incident that police are treating as murder.

According to police at Kwa Kamari Police Station on June 5, 2026, the victim, identified as Masika Muthemi Mulandi, was attacked while watering and grazing cattle in the area.

A team of National Police Service (NPS) officers led by the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Tseikuru, the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kwa Kamari and other officers visited the scene after receiving the report.

Police found the herdsman’s lifeless body lying in a thicket.

A preliminary examination revealed that he had sustained two gunshot wounds to the back and a deep cut wound at the back of the head.

Three goats belonging to the complainant were also found dead at the scene with gunshot injuries.

Security officers combed the area in search of the attackers, but the suspects had already fled into nearby thickets.

The scene was photographed and documented before the body was moved to Kyuso Sub-County Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said officers led by the Officer Commanding the GSU camp in the Kwa Kamari area remain on the ground pursuing the assailants. Investigations into the killing are ongoing.

The area has been a point of interest and fighting between herders in the area and those who visit there.

This has left almost a dozen people dead in months which prompted violent protests blocking roads in the area as locals demanded justice.

Police spokesman Michael Muchiri said a team is investigating the incident and pursuing the suspects behind the same.

And police in Kasarani have launched investigations into a suspected murder after the body of an unidentified man was discovered outside a residential area in the Githurai 44 area.

According to police, the incident was reported on June 5, 2026, at about 6:32 p.m. by a resident who had returned home from work at around 4:00 p.m. and found an unknown man lying outside the residential premises.

Upon arrival, police officers found the body lying in a supine position. Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene.

A preliminary examination revealed visible stab injuries on the chin, blood on the face, and bruises on the chest and back, raising suspicions of foul play.

The body was removed to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Investigations are ongoing as police seek to identify the deceased and trace those responsible for the suspected killing.
