    Early Life

Hilaria Baldwin was born Hillary Lynn Hayward-Thomas on January 6, 1984, in Boston, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Dr. Kathryn Hayward and David Thomas, a lawyer.

She grew up in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood and attended the Cambridge School of Weston. Her family had longstanding connections to the Boston area, although they also spent time visiting Spain.

Hilaria later attended New York University, where she studied dance and art history. During her college years, she developed an interest in yoga, eventually pursuing it professionally.

    Yoga and Wellness Career

After graduating from college, Hilaria became involved in New York City’s wellness community. She worked as a yoga instructor at Yoga to the People and developed a following among clients interested in fitness and healthy living.

In 2010, she co-founded Yoga Vida, a Manhattan yoga studio. Her work at the studio helped establish her as a recognizable figure in New York’s fitness and wellness scene.

Hilaria later expanded her career beyond teaching yoga. She wrote the 2016 book The Living Clearly Method, which focused on fitness, wellness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

She also became a lifestyle correspondent for Extra and built a substantial following on social media.

    Marriage to Alec Baldwin

Hilaria met Alec Baldwin at a restaurant in New York City in 2011. The two began dating and married in June 2012.

Their relationship significantly increased Hilaria’s public profile, as Alec was already an established Hollywood actor with decades of experience in film, television and theater.

The couple have seven children together: Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, María Lucía and Ilaria.

Hilaria has frequently documented her family life on social media, including her experiences with pregnancy, parenting and raising a large family.

    Spanish Heritage Controversy

One of the most significant controversies surrounding Hilaria Baldwin emerged in late 2020, when social media users questioned her claims and public presentation of her Spanish heritage.

For years, Hilaria had spoken publicly about her connection to Spain and was sometimes perceived as having been raised there. However, information about her background showed that she was born and raised in Boston.

The controversy intensified after old interviews and videos resurfaced showing differences in how she spoke about her background and used English and Spanish accents.

The issue generated widespread debate about cultural identity, authenticity and cultural appropriation, particularly because Hilaria had developed a public persona closely associated with Spanish culture.

Hilaria subsequently acknowledged that she was born in Boston and explained that her connection to Spain stemmed from her family’s relationship with the country and her experiences there.

The controversy became one of the defining episodes of her public career and generated extensive media coverage.

    Life After the Identity Controversy

Following the controversy, Hilaria continued maintaining a significant presence on social media, although much of her content became centered on her husband, children, parenting and family life.

In 2021, she and Alec launched the podcast What’s One More?, which was later rebranded as Witches Anonymous.

Hilaria also remained publicly supportive of Alec during the controversies surrounding his career, including the fatal 2021 incident involving a prop firearm on the set of Rust.

In February 2025, Hilaria and her family expanded their television presence with the TLC reality series The Baldwins, which follows the family’s day-to-day life.

    Hilaria Baldwin’s Real Estate

A substantial part of the Baldwin family’s wealth is tied to real estate holdings.

    New York City

Alec and Hilaria’s primary New York residence is a penthouse at Devonshire House in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village.

Between 2011 and 2019, the couple spent approximately $16 million acquiring what were originally six separate apartments in the building. The units were subsequently combined and renovated into a roughly 4,137-square-foot penthouse.

The residence has three bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms, as well as two terraces, a great room, living room, study and eat-in kitchen.

    Vermont

In early 2022, Alec and Hilaria purchased a 55-acre property in Arlington, Vermont, for $1.75 million.

The property includes an antique farmhouse, guest cottage, horse barn and another barn.

    Hamptons

Alec purchased a 10-acre property in Amagansett in 1996 while he was married to Kim Basinger. The couple paid approximately $1.75 million for the property.

The estate includes a historic house dating to the 1700s and covers approximately 10,000 square feet.

Alec and Hilaria later listed the property for sale in 2022 for $29 million. The asking price was subsequently reduced to $19 million before the listing was removed in 2024.
