Getting calls from private or hidden numbers can be annoying, especially when they are frequent or unwanted. Fortunately, Samsung phones offer built-in features that allow you to block private numbers without needing third-party apps. Blocking these calls helps you take back control of your phone and avoid unnecessary disturbances. Here is how to block private numbers on Samsung.
- Understanding Private Numbers
Private or hidden numbers are those that have deliberately concealed their caller ID. Instead of showing the phone number, you’ll see “Private Number” or “Unknown” when they call. People may hide their number for privacy, but unfortunately, this feature is also used for spam and unwanted calls.
- Use Samsung’s Built-In Call Block Feature
Samsung phones running One UI offer a straightforward way to block private or unknown numbers through the Phone app.
Here’s how to block them:
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three dots at the top-right corner and select Settings.
- Tap Block numbers.
- Enable the toggle for Block unknown/private numbers.
Once this is activated, your Samsung phone will automatically reject calls from hidden or private numbers. You won’t hear your phone ring, and those callers won’t be able to disturb you.
- Block Specific Numbers Manually
In addition to blocking private numbers, you can also block individual callers if they don’t hide their number.
To do this:
- Go to the Phone app and tap Recents.
- Find the number you want to block.
- Tap the Info (i) icon next to the number.
- Tap Block at the bottom of the screen and confirm.
This method won’t block private numbers, but it’s helpful for numbers that repeatedly call and don’t conceal their ID.
- Use Do Not Disturb Mode for Added Control
If private numbers continue to slip through or you want more control over who can call you, use Do Not Disturb mode:
- Go to Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb.
- Tap Calls and messages under “Exceptions”.
- Choose Calls from contacts only or another preference.
This setting allows only calls from specific people, like those in your contacts. All other calls—including private numbers—will be silenced.
- Use Third-Party Call Blocker Apps (Optional)
If the built-in options aren’t enough, you can try apps such as:
- Truecaller
- Hiya
- Call Blocker
These apps identify and block spam, private, and unknown callers. Many of them offer advanced features like community-based spam warnings, auto-block lists, and more. However, they require access to your contacts and call logs, so choose a trusted app and review privacy settings before use.
