Deleting a WhatsApp message for everyone allows you to remove a message you sent by mistake from both your chat and the recipient’s. This can be useful for correcting errors, removing inappropriate texts, or retracting messages you no longer want to be seen. However, this feature is time-sensitive and has a few conditions. Here is how to delete WhatsApp message for everyone.
- Open WhatsApp and Go to the Chat
Launch WhatsApp on your phone and navigate to the individual or group chat where the message was sent.
- Find the Message
Scroll through the conversation to locate the specific message you want to delete. You can only delete messages that you’ve sent.
- Tap and Hold the Message
On Android, tap and hold the message. On iPhone, long-press the message until a menu appears.
- Tap the Trash Bin Icon
After selecting the message, a toolbar will appear at the top (on Android) or at the bottom (on iPhone). Tap the trash can icon to access delete options.
- Select “Delete for Everyone”
Choose “Delete for Everyone.” This will remove the message from both your chat and the recipient’s chat. If you don’t see this option, the time limit may have passed, or the recipient may be using an outdated version of WhatsApp.
Important Notes:
- You usually have up to about 2 days to delete a message for everyone.
- Both you and the recipient must be using the latest version of WhatsApp for the feature to work.
- Once deleted, a placeholder saying “This message was deleted” will appear in the chat.
