If you are looking for a gentle, caffeine-free drink to help you relax, learning how to make chamomile tea is a wonderful addition to your routine. Chamomile tea is made from dried chamomile flowers and is widely known for its mild, floral flavor and calming properties. It has been enjoyed for centuries in regions such as Germany, where herbal teas are part of traditional wellness practices. Preparing chamomile tea at home is simple, affordable, and requires only a few ingredients. With the right method, you can brew a fragrant cup that is both comforting and refreshing.

Ingredients and Equipment You Will Need

Chamomile tea does not require complicated ingredients. Using high-quality dried flowers will give you the best flavor and aroma.

    • 1 tablespoon dried chamomile flowers or 1 chamomile tea bag
      • 1 cup boiling water
      • Honey or lemon, optional
      • Teapot or heatproof mug
      • Strainer, if using loose flowers

Dried chamomile flowers are available in supermarkets, health stores, or online. Make sure they are food-grade and meant for tea preparation.

    1. Boiling the Water

Start by heating fresh water in a kettle or saucepan. Bring it to a gentle boil. Fresh water helps produce a cleaner taste compared to reheated water.

Once the water reaches a boil, remove it from direct heat and allow it to cool slightly for about 30 seconds. Extremely hot water can sometimes make herbal tea taste overly strong.

    1. Steeping the Chamomile

Place the dried chamomile flowers or tea bag into your mug or teapot. Pour the hot water over the flowers and cover the cup with a small plate or lid. Covering helps trap the essential oils and enhances the aroma.

Allow the tea to steep for about 5 to 7 minutes. The longer you steep, the stronger the flavor will become. Chamomile tea typically turns a light golden color when ready.

After steeping, strain the tea if you used loose flowers. Make sure all petals are removed before drinking.

    1. Enhancing Flavor and Serving

Chamomile tea has a naturally mild, slightly sweet floral taste. However, you can adjust the flavor to your preference.

    • Add a teaspoon of honey for natural sweetness
      • Squeeze a little lemon for brightness
      • Add a small slice of fresh ginger for warmth
      • Mix with a splash of warm milk for a creamy variation

Chamomile tea is best enjoyed warm, especially in the evening. Many people drink it before bedtime as part of a relaxing routine.
