Microsoft Word automatically turns web addresses and email addresses into clickable hyperlinks. While this feature is useful, there are times when you may want to remove links from text for a cleaner document. Word offers multiple ways to remove hyperlinks, whether from a single link or the entire document. Here is how to remove links in word.

    Removing a Single Hyperlink

If you only need to remove one hyperlink:

    1. Right-click on the hyperlink
    2. Select Remove Hyperlink

The text remains, but the link is removed.

    Removing Multiple Hyperlinks at Once

If your document contains many hyperlinks, manually removing each one can be tedious. Instead, use this shortcut:

    1. Select the entire document by pressing Ctrl + A
    2. Press Ctrl + Shift + F9

This removes all hyperlinks while keeping the text intact.

    Preventing Automatic Hyperlinks

To stop Word from automatically converting web addresses into links:

    1. Click on File and select Options
    2. Go to Proofing and click AutoCorrect Options
    3. Select the AutoFormat As You Type tab
    4. Uncheck Internet and network paths with hyperlinks

Now, Word will no longer create hyperlinks automatically when you type a URL or email address.

Using Find and Replace to Remove Links

For advanced users, you can use Find and Replace to remove all hyperlinks:

    1. Press Ctrl + H to open Find and Replace
    2. Click More and select Format > Style
    3. Choose Hyperlink and click OK
    4. Leave the “Replace with” field empty and click Replace All

This removes all links in the document in one step.
