Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

According to reports the senator was ambushed at Sovereign Hotel, Kisumu, before the detectives whisked him away.

“They did not state their reason for arresting him, and at this time we have no information on what could have led to his arrest,” the hotel representative is quoted.

Sources say the senator has been taken in for questioning over his alleged links to Matungu killings.

“It is an organised group, the way they execute their crime is the same, you find that they cut all their victims behind the neck,” area OCPD John Matsili said in a past interview.

According to sources, the gangsters target certain individuals.

“These gangsters always come to the villages at around 2am and start hacking their victims,” said Allan Juma, a resident in Matungu.

On Thursday, Interior Cabinet Secretary visited the area which has experienced over 12 cold blood killings, with over 30 people left with serious injuries.
