    Siblings

Kareena has one sibling, her elder sister, Karisma Kapoor.

Karisma, who is also a celebrated actress, was a reigning star in Bollywood during the 1990s, preceding Kareena’s own entry into the film industry.

The two sisters share a close bond and are both prominent figures in the Kapoor family, having grown up in the limelight.

Their mother, Babita, and father, Randhir, were also actors, making the film industry an integral part of their lives from a very young age.

    Career

Kapoor’s career in Bollywood began with the film “Refugee” in 2000, a performance that earned her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award and immediately established her as a talent to watch.

The following year, she achieved massive commercial success with the ensemble melodrama “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,” which became a blockbuster and remains one of her most iconic films.

Her performance as the popular character “Poo” in the film became a cultural phenomenon.

After a period in the early 2000s where she starred in a series of commercially unsuccessful films, Kareena strategically chose to take on more challenging and diverse roles to avoid being typecast.

This proved to be a turning point.

Her critically acclaimed portrayal of a sex worker in “Chameli” (2004) showcased her versatility and won her a Filmfare Special Performance Award.

She continued to impress with powerful performances in films like “Dev” (2004) and “Omkara” (2006), both of which earned her Filmfare Critics Awards for Best Actress.

Her career reached another pinnacle in 2007 with the romantic comedy “Jab We Met,” for which she received the Filmfare Best Actress Award.

Over the years, Kareena has balanced critically acclaimed films with major commercial successes.

Her notable films include “3 Idiots” (2009), “Bodyguard” (2011), “Singham Returns” (2014), “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” (2015), “Veere Di Wedding” (2018), “Good Newwz” (2019), and more recently, “The Buckingham Murders” (2023) and “Crew” (2024).

    Accolades

Throughout her career, Kapoor has received numerous awards and honours that recognise her significant contributions to Indian cinema.

Her impressive collection of trophies includes several prestigious Filmfare Awards across various categories.

She won the Filmfare Best Female Debut for “Refugee,” a Special Performance Award for “Chameli,” and Critics Awards for Best Actress for her work in “Dev” and “Omkara”.

She ultimately won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her iconic role in “Jab We Met”.

Beyond Filmfare, she has also been honoured at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, winning Best Actress for “Jab We Met” and “3 Idiots,” and a Best Female Debut award for “Refugee”.

In 2014, she received the Icon of the Year award at the Asiavision Awards.

Her work has been consistently recognised at various other ceremonies, including the Apsara Film Producers Guild Awards, the BIG Star Entertainment Awards, and the Bollywood Hungama Surfers’ Choice Movie Awards.
