Kenyans are unhappy with Sports Kenya for hiring out the Kasarani Stadium for a “Shopping Festival” ahead of an international game.
Dubbed “Changamka Kenya Shopping Festival”, the event is scheduled to run from the 3 to 7 April 2017 at the Kasarani.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia are supposed to host RS Berkane of Morocco in an international CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals game at the same venue on 7th April.
No any other stadium in Kenya is currently able to host such a game, and Gor Mahia are supposed to book it for two days for the game according to CAF regulations.
In another case, the Sports Kenya has hired out the Kasarani Gymnasium for a prayer event organised by the Deputy President’s wife Rachel Ruto, leading to postponement of a Kabadi regional tournament.
Under hashtag #KasaraniStadium, largely dissatisfied Kenyans have been experiencing their disgust at how the government does not value sports.
Below are some of their reactions:
Was #KasaraniStadium built for sports or expos? This event can be taken to the other stadiums jubilee has built. Kamariny stadium in Pokot can be a good venue

Dear @AMB_A_Mohammed,
et's respect sports please. The Primary role for our stadia should be hosting sporting events. Why would an EXPO bar #Gor Mahia from using #KasaraniStadium, the only CAF accredited facility in Kenya?— Francis Ngira (@francisngira) March 29, 2019
You are planning to block a team representing a country at CAF because of an EXPO which can take place even at KICC? WHERE ARE THE OTHER STADIUMS @WilliamsRuto
said were completed.. Why can't they host the EXPO in those stadiums#KasaraniStadium should be used for its purpose. pic.twitter.com/I3c5FM0hUo— @WuodOngare (@dennisongare) March 29, 2019
