An unknown number of students of Kenyatta University were on Monday rushed to the hospital following a stampede at the institution’s library.

There was panic after a lift malfunctioned while on the third floor of the building and later collapsing to the ground.

The loud bang had students and faculty members scampering for safety.

Others are said to have jumped through the windows instead of using the stairs.

The area has since been cordoned off by the security personnel.

“We heard a loud bang from the library and everyone ran out as quickly as we could. Some students jumped and others were pushed as everyone tried to get to safety,” a student is quoted by Nairobi News.
