The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student who died after being thrown out of a moving matatu had multiple body injuries and internal bleeding caused by falling, an autopsy said.

An autopsy on the body of Eugene Mutuku, who was a student at the KMTC in Matuu, was conducted on Monday at Kenyatta National Hospital.

He was allegedly pushed out of a moving matatu along Thika Road. The crew of the Nicco Sacco matatu are missing since the incident happened last Friday.

Mutuku succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.  The matatu was later found abandoned in Kariokor area, Nairobi. The driver and conductor remain at large.

His grieving family is now demanding a thorough investigation and the immediate arrest of those responsible for the heinous act.

Two directors of the Nicco Transport Company were arraigned in court Monday, as police continue their manhunt for the bus crew.

According to police, the accident occurred at about 6:40 a.m. on June 5, 2026.

The matatu was travelling from the Thika direction towards Nairobi’s city centre when the passenger allegedly alighted from the moving vehicle and fell onto the road.

There are claims he was pushed out after a dispute over Sh50 fare. He sustained serious injuries, including a dislocated right hip and waist, as well as the loss of two front teeth.

Police said Mutuku succumbed to his injuries at about 5:00 p.m. while undergoing treatment at the hospital. As part of his course requirements, he had just begun his clinical attachment on Tuesday at a hospital in Kasarani.

A Good Samaritan who rushed to help found him in agony and sped him toward the hospital. On the way, he spotted the same matatu at Garden Estate, casually picking up passengers.

When he informed the crew that they had just thrown a passenger onto the road, they reportedly claimed they were heading to the police station to report the incident.

Police said they were looking for the crew for probe and efforts to arrest them were ongoing Monday.

It also comes at a time when many Kenyans are demanding action on rogue matatu crew on the roads. Last week, a reckless driver overturned his matatu along Enterprise Road in Nairobi and killed five passengers while performing antics on the road at night. Police say the incident is under probe.
