The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will open the registration portal for the 2026 KPSEA, KJSEA and KCSE examinations in February 2026.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr David Njengere announced this on Friday, January 9, 2026, during the release of the 2025 KCSE examination results.

Dr Njengere said the council has already begun preparations for the 2026 assessment and examination cycle. He asked heads of institutions to use the month of January to prepare for the registration exercise.

“Heads of institutions are requested to identify all eligible candidates and collect the required information and documents in readiness for uploading accurate registration data within the set timelines,” Njengere said.

He added that after registration, KNEC will introduce an SMS platform that will allow parents and guardians to confirm their learners’ registration status, in addition to the existing verification systems. He warned school administrators to take full responsibility for registering candidates to avoid cases where learners miss out.

Meanwhile, President William Ruto announced that more than 270,000 candidates who sat for the 2025 KCSE examinations qualified for direct entry into universities after scoring a mean grade of C+ and above.

The President said the information was shared with him at the Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County, ahead of the official release of the results.

According to President Ruto, a total of 993,000 candidates sat for the 2025 KCSE examinations, with girls accounting for 50 per cent of the candidates.

“At Eldoret State Lodge, Uasin Gishu County, I was briefed on the release of the 2025 KCSE examinations. We are encouraged that out of the 993,000 candidates, half of whom were girls, 270,000 attained C+ and above, qualifying for direct university entry,” the President said.
