    Linda Purl was born on September 2, 1955, in Greenwich, Connecticut.

    She is the daughter of Raymond Charles Arthur Purl, a chemical industry executive, and Marshelline “Marshie” Purl. Her grandmother, Beatrice Saville, was among the founders of the Actors’ Equity Association.

    At the age of five, her family relocated to Japan, where she attended the Toho Geino Academy and trained in acting. During her childhood, she appeared in stage productions at Tokyo’s Imperial Theatre, including The Miracle Worker and The King and I. Her early performances eventually led to appearances in Japanese films before she returned to the United States as a teenager.

    Television career

    Linda Purl began her American television career on the CBS soap opera The Secret Storm before making guest appearances on numerous popular television series.

    Her breakthrough came with Happy Days, where she first played Gloria before returning years later as Ashley Pfister, one of Fonzie’s most memorable love interests.

    She later became widely recognized for portraying Charlene Matlock, the daughter of Ben Matlock, on the legal drama Matlock.

    Since 2020, Purl has been in a relationship with actor Patrick Duffy. In 2022, the pair launched Duffy’s Dough, a business that sells sourdough starter kits inspired by their shared love of baking.
