A 33-year-old man and two bulls drowned after an ox-cart they were using to fetch water slid into Masinga Dam in Machakos County.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at Kawawile Village within Ndithini Sub-county.

Police identified the deceased as Dominic Nthenge, 33.

According to preliminary investigations, Nthenge was at the shores of Masinga Dam at about 4 p.m., driving two bulls pulling an ox-cart to fetch water when the animals, cart and driver slipped into the dam.

The man and the two bulls all drowned.

Police officers visited the scene, where the body of the deceased and the carcasses of the two bulls were retrieved from the water.

Crime scene investigators processed the area before the body was taken to the Daniel Comboni Mission Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.

And the body of a fisherman who went missing after a fishing boat capsized in the Indian Ocean off Lamu County was recovered, bringing the search operation to a tragic end.

The deceased was identified as Kenga Katana, a 43-year-old fisherman from the Giriama community, who had been among seven fishermen involved in the boating incident.

Police said the body was recovered at about 7 p.m. on Friday from the Indian Ocean shoreline during a joint search and rescue operation conducted by Beach Management Unit (BMU) divers and officers from Baharini Police Station.

A preliminary examination at the scene revealed deep bite wounds on the body, which investigators suspect may have been inflicted by an unidentified sea creature after the fisherman disappeared at sea.

The body was positively identified by the deceased’s wife before the scene was processed and documented by investigators.

It was later transferred to the Mpeketoni Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it will undergo a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police said investigations into the boating accident are continuing.
