A 29-year-old man drowned while swimming with friends at Kisuke Beach in Lamu County on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Festus Momanyi, a resident of Mpeketoni, was swimming in the ocean with his friends when he ventured into deeper waters and drowned.

The incident occurred at about 2pm and was reported to Kibaoni Police Station at around 5:30pm.

Efforts by his friends to rescue him were unsuccessful. Police officers later proceeded to the scene and, with the assistance of local divers, retrieved his body from the ocean.

Police said blood was observed oozing from the deceased’s ears.

The body was moved to Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital, where it was preserved pending an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have commenced investigations into the incident.

Elsewhere, an eight-year-old girl drowned in a farming dam while swimming with her friends in Yatta, Machakos County.

The incident occurred on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at around 5pm in Muriruni Village, Makutano Sub-location.

Police said the girl, a pupil at Kilaata Primary School, had been swimming with her friends when she drowned.

Members of the public retrieved her body from the dam and alerted her grandmother, Esther Mulu Kamba, 57, who later reported the incident to police at around 6:30pm.

The scene was photographed and documented before the body, which had no visible injuries, was moved to Mbaku Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have commenced investigations into the incident.

And a search operation went on for a 20-year-old man who is feared to have drowned after being swept away by the fast-moving waters of River Nzoia in Ugunja, Siaya County.

Police said Emmanuel Oduor was bathing along the bank of the river at Umala Lower Village when he accidentally slipped into the water on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Officers who visited the scene established that Oduor had been swept downstream by the strong current before he could be rescued.

A search team was deployed to the area in an effort to trace him.

Police said the search was still underway and further updates would be issued as the operation progressed.
