Police in Uasin Gishu County have launched investigations after the body of a man was discovered in a maize plantation with fatal injuries in Moiben Sub-County.

The body was found on Monday evening behind Belways Building in the Belways area of Kimumu Sub-Location after a village elder alerted police.

Police responded to the scene and found the body of an adult male lying in the maize plantation.

Police said the victim had his throat slit and his right foot was broken at the ankle, suggesting he had been subjected to a violent attack.

Investigators recovered two national identity cards near the body, one belonging to a woman and another suspected to belong to the deceased, identified as Vincent Kiai Kipruto, aged 35.

The scene also showed signs of a struggle, with blood stains visible around the area. However, officers did not recover the weapon believed to have been used in the killing.

Crime scene investigators documented the area before the body was moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary in Eldoret for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have commenced investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible. Authorities are also working to formally confirm the deceased’s identity.

Elsewhere, police in Nakuru County have arrested a man after the body of his wife, who had earlier been reported missing, was found in a maize plantation near their home.

The deceased was identified as Lucy Njeri Ng’ang’a, 33.

According to police, the suspect reported that he returned home from work at about 11 p.m. on July 12 and found his children asleep but his wife missing. He later reported her disappearance at Kiugoine Police Station on Monday afternoon.

Police officers accompanied the complainant to the family’s home in the St. Michaels area of Kiugoine to verify the report. During a search of the compound, officers noticed signs of disturbance behind the house leading towards a maize plantation.

About 107 metres from the house, they discovered Lucy’s body lying face down in a pool of blood.

Investigators said the deceased had a visible wound on the right side of the head near the ear, believed to have been inflicted with a blunt object. Her right ear was also partially torn.

Preliminary investigations indicate the couple had a history of frequent domestic disputes and physical altercations.

Police immediately arrested the husband as the prime suspect in the killing. He remains in custody as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nakuru North continue with investigations.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene before the body was moved to the Nakuru County Municipal Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Police cautioned that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
