Police in Siaya are holding a 25 year old man suspected to have sexually assaulted and hacked to death a 72 year old woman at Lwala Koudia location in Siaya Township on Monday night.

According to a relative of the elderly woman Mr. Boaz Wera, the deceased Teresia Ogutu was alone at her home alone when she was attacked by the young man identified as Stephen Ochieng.

Wera said that the granny’s lifeless body was discovered by one of her grandchildren who lives with her upon his return from his parents’ home.

“Last evening a young man well known to us attacked, raped and hacked our grandmother to death, before fleeing the scene,” he narrated.

He added that the grandchild, who bumped into his grandmother’s  lifeless body, wondered why the woman was lying on the floor only to find her in a pool of blood.

Mr. Wera added that they (family) immediately informed Mulaha Sub location Assistant Chief Mr Marcellus Murumba of the incident who with the local administrative police, launched a  man hunt for the suspect.

He was arrested at his home, only a few meters away.

The Assistant Chief and police traced him using the foot-marks he left behind from the scene of crime as they led straight to his home where he was found.

While confirming the incident, Siaya OCPD Ancient Kaloki said that the woman died as a result of the deep cuts on the back and hands inflicted to her with a sharp object.

Mr Kaloki added that the suspect was found wearing the cloths that he is believed to have been wearing when he committed the offense since they were still muddy and soaked in blood.

He added that the police are looking for the weapon used to hack the elderly woman to death as part of critical evidence to be presented in court once the investigations are over.

“We will present the suspect in court immediately the police have completed the investigations,” he said.
