Citizen TV journalist Jacqueline Wanjiru Maribe and fiance Joseph Kuria Irungu alias Jowie will spend another week in remand after a court set the bail application hearing for October 24.

The ruling was made by Justice James Wakiaga after the two accused person pleaded not guilty to killing Monica Kimani in cold blood.

Justice Wakiaga also ordered for Jowie to receive medical attention at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

“Probation officers should prepare and submit pre-bail report,” the judge further directed.

In an affidavit, Ms Maribe asked the court to release her as she “was not involved in the murder, was not at the scene of the murder, had no knowledge of the deceased and had no conscious knowledge of any persons known to the deceased.”

“There are no compelling reasons whatsoever that can deny me bond. I’m a well-known TV journalist. Most Kenyans are conversant with my job and can easily spot me anywhere; therefore, making it impossible to jump bail,” she said, adding that her child solely depends on her for social and financial upkeep.

Kimani’s family has however opposed their bail application saying that the accused could interfere with the key witnesses and pose a threat to their safety.
