Moody Awori has lost one of his houses to the government after losing an ownership case that he had filed at the High Court.

The former vice president had moved to court to block Kisumu County from repossessing a house belonging to the government that he allegedly acquired in 1998.

The High Court, however, did not heed to his request to keep the house and dismissed the case. Kisumu county government was given the mandate to repossess Uncle Moody’s house.

Judge Stephen Kibunja of the Environment and Lands Court dismissed the case which was filed in 2013, stating that Moody had not provided sufficient evidence to prove that his rights to own the contested house were violated.

The former Home Affairs Minister had earlier told the court that he was the rightful owner of the house, having acquired a 99-year lease from the Kenyan Government on July 1, 1998.

Contesting Moody’s claims, County Housing Director Michael Osewe told the court that the house was Government’s property which was built in 1976.
