Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially declared the Homa Bay County Commissioner’s residence a State Lodge.

The declaration was made through a gazette notice dated May 15, 2026, marking the latest addition to Kenya’s network of official State facilities used for government functions and hosting senior state engagements.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares Homa Bay County Commissioner’s Residence as a State Lodge as from the date of this publication,” the gazette notice reads.

The move raises the number of State Houses and State Lodges in the country to at least 13.

Kenya currently has three main State Houses located in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru, which serve as official residences and working stations for the President.

In addition, State Lodges are spread across several counties and are primarily used to host the President and other senior government officials during official tours and engagements.

Some of the counties hosting State Lodges include Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu (Eldoret), Makueni, Kilifi, Nyeri and now Homa Bay, among others.

The designation of the Homa Bay County Commissioner’s residence as a State Lodge is expected to strengthen government operations and official state functions within the county and the larger Nyanza region.
