With Carlo Ancelotti preparing to bid farewell at the end of the La Liga season, Real Madrid have secured his successor: Xabi Alonso. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the move, giving his iconic “Here we go” endorsement to the deal.

Following his emotional farewell to Bayer Leverkusen fans during their final home match last weekend, Alonso’s next chapter has been confirmed. The former Real Madrid midfielder has inked a three-year contract with the Spanish giants, running through to 2028.

According to Romano, all elements of the deal have been finalized, including Alonso’s coaching staff. The club’s plan is for him to begin work in time for the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off next month.

Alonso’s current team, Bayer Leverkusen, wrap up their season on Saturday, May 17. Real Madrid’s final La Liga fixture is set for May 25. Alonso is expected to officially take charge shortly after, signaling the start of a new managerial era at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Carlo Ancelotti’s departure announcement could be made as early as this week. The Italian is widely tipped to take over as head coach of the Brazilian national team.

Though still early in his top-flight managerial journey, Alonso has already made a significant mark. Last season, he led Bayer Leverkusen to a historic domestic double and guided them to the UEFA Europa League final. This season, Leverkusen finished second in the Bundesliga and reached the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, where they were knocked out by Bayern Munich.

Alonso’s return to Real Madrid heralds a new tactical and stylistic era for the club, with high expectations for innovation and success.
