At least one passenger was killed while 21 were left with serious injuries after a bus overturned at the State House Road/Kenyatta Avenue junction in Nairobi.

Police said the accident happened on Monday October 13, 2025 night as the bus raced from Valley Road down to the city centre.

Survivors said the driver lost control of the bus’ control as it sped down the hilly road and overturned at the junction.

The area is under construction. Rescuers rushed to the scene and helped the injured to the hospital. Nairobi County’s Environment Chief Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, arrived at the scene and helped to mobilise for emergency services.

He blamed speeding for the accident.

“We urge drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and do not speed in the city,” he said.

The City Hoppa Sacco bus landed on the left side of the road as the passengers scrambled to escape.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. The wreckage was towed to the police station in Kilimani pending investigation.

Last week, more than 30 people were left with injuries after a bus plunged into a river in Waruku area, Nairobi. The incident is under probe.

Meanwhile, two police officers were killed following road traffic accident that occurred on the evening of Sunday, 12th October 2025, at around 8:00 p.m. along the Mwatate–Voi Road near Landi area.

The impact left both officers with serious multiple injuries, police said. They were rushed to Voi Moi Level Five Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment. The driver of the motor vehicle escaped unhurt.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
