Safaricom Business has stepped up its engagement with the media as part of efforts to highlight how its enterprise technology solutions are driving growth among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and large corporates.

During a media forum in Nairobi, the telco provided insights into its portfolio, which includes cloud services, cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), and enterprise connectivity solutions. The company said its offerings are designed to tackle barriers faced by businesses such as limited access to capital and restricted digital reach.

Frankline Okata, acting Chief Enterprise Business Officer at Safaricom, underscored the transformative role of technology in enabling inclusive growth.

“At Safaricom Business, we believe that access to the right digital tools can level the playing field for MSMEs, helping them compete, scale, and thrive,” Mr. Okata said.

The enterprise unit has been in operation for over 16 years and has steadily grown into a trusted technology partner across sectors. According to company data, Safaricom’s enterprise segment has expanded its footprint significantly, with micro-enterprise revenue rising and SME customer numbers more than doubling in recent years.

Kenya’s MSMEs contribute about 40 per cent of GDP and provide over 80 per cent of the country’s employment, according to government and industry reports. This makes them a key growth pillar for the economy and a priority area for digital transformation.

Safaricom’s push into enterprise technology comes as the firm diversifies revenue streams beyond its traditional consumer voice and data business. In the financial year ended March 2025, the group posted Sh388.7 billion in total revenue, an 11.2 per cent growth, with enterprise revenue contributing an increasing share.

The media session concluded with a networking engagement where participants discussed opportunities for collaboration and further dialogue on the role of technology in enterprise growth.
