Reports circulating in the media about Moi University medical student Ivy Wangechi’s murderer working as an M-Pesa agent are fabricated.

Naftali Njahi Kinuthia killed Wangechi, 28, in outside the Moi Referral Hospital, an incident that took the country by storm.

His mother described him as one with a calm demeanor but his actions indicate otherwise.

According to eye witnesses, Njahi who was last night fighting for his life at the same hospital arrived at the health facility at around 10 am and parked near the Accident and Emergency wing.

He waited for the deceased and at around 11 am hit her with an axe on the head, cut her.

He did not take off immediately. He waited until she took her last breath and then tried to flee the scene.

Boda boda riders and other on-lookers caught up to him, beating him to a pulp before the police came to his rescue.

This writer has also learnt that Njahi who hails from Thika, Kiambu county, worked in the IT Department in one of the largest betting companies in Kenya, SportPesa which trades under the name Pevans EA Limited.

It is also true that MPesa issued instructions to media houses to refrain from linking the killer to the betting firm.

Why, many would wonder. Well, when placing bets a large number of Kenyans often use MPesa via the paybill option.

Kahawa Tungu has also learnt that Safaricom or MPesa in this case threatened to withdraw adverts from the media should they link Njahi to SportPesa.

Friends and family continue to send heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased who apparently learned of her demise through social media.

Today would have been Wangechi’s birthday.
