In a sudden twist of events, Sudan’s newly sworn-in military council chief has stepped down just a day after he took on the mantle.

General Awad Ibn Ouf made his announcement on Friday through the state television, leading to the crowds shouting in jubilation.

Ibn Ouf then appointed Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burha as his successor.

Celebrating the announcement, citizens of Sudan chanted: “we toppled two presidents in two days.

“We have done it, we have done it,” most Sudanese took to the streets to rejoice.

Ibn Ouf had just been sworn-in on Thursday as the chief of a ruling military council, replacing the long-serving President Omar-al-Bashir.

Bashir was ousted by the army following months of deadly protests.

However, following Bashir’s resignation, Sudanese citizens were not pleased by the installation of Ibn Ouf as their new chief of the military council.

On the contrary, they called for the resignation of all “Bashir men” which included Ibn Ouf.

Since the appointment of Ibn Ouf as military council chief, the protesters had turned their anger against him.

“We don’t want Ibn Ouf, we don’t want any military government,” said one protester.

“This entire group is from Bashir’s regime. We want a civilian leader.”
