Former Manchester City and England manager Sven Goran Eriksson has been appointed as the new coach Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions on a two-year deal.

The 70-year-old Swedish gaffer succeeds Belgian Hugo Broos, who was shown the door last year despite winning the 2017 Gabon AFCON.

Broos was sacked for failing to qualify Cameroon for the 2018 Russia and for refusal to take up residence in Cameroon.

Sven is returning to Africa for the second time since guiding Cote d’Ivoire at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where they failed to make the round of 16.

The Elephants drew 0-0 with Portugal in their opening game followed by a 3-1 loss to Brazil before beating North Korea 3-0 in their last group match.

In his hey days Sven played as a right back in his native Sweden for Torsby IF, SK Sifnalla and KB Karlskoga IF.

His coaching career has been more illustrious and taken his across the world with considerable success.

Some of the teams he has managed includes England, Mexico, Man City, Roma, Lazio, Benfica and Fiorentina.

His immediate task will be to prepare the Indomitable Lions for the 2019 AFCON which the country hosts mid next year.
