A 16-year-old boy died after a suspected electrocution incident in Rachuonyo East Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

The deceased was found dead on March 17, 2026, at around 10:00 a.m. near an electricity pole along a rough road in Kawuor Location.

Police said the body of the teenager was discovered lying beside the road with visible burn injuries on the right hand, leg, and abdomen—injuries consistent with electrocution.

According to the boy’s father, Elisha Odhiambo Ang’onga, the teenager had epilepsy and mental challenges and had left home on the evening of March 16 at around 6:00 p.m. without returning.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was known to climb trees, and investigators suspect he may have attempted to climb the electricity pole, leading to the fatal incident.

The body was moved to Jawabu Funeral Home in Kadongo Centre, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Police have classified the case as pending under inquiry as investigations continue.

Elsewhere, a man aged 84 died after a fire razed his house in Buuri East Sub-County, Meru County.

The incident, reported on March 17, 2026, occurred in Giantonjara village near Nchoroiboro Market, where the home of Josphat Miqueta Kaai was completely destroyed in a fire suspected to have broken out during the night.

Police said they found the house reduced to ashes, with only iron sheet remnants scattered on the ground.

Upon removing the debris, officers discovered a skull inside the burnt structure, indicating that the elderly man was likely trapped in the house at the time of the fire.

According to police, the elderly man lived alone. A relative said he had visited his grandfather at around 8:30 a.m., only to find the house burnt down and subsequently reported the matter to authorities.

All property within the house was destroyed in the inferno, with the value of the loss yet to be determined.

The remains were moved to Cool-Breeze Mortuary pending identification and a postmortem examination.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, with police launching investigations into the incident.
