Three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruits have died after developing medical complications during a scheduled training exercise at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

In a statement, KDF said the incident occurred on January 29, 2026, while the recruits were taking part in a routine endurance exercise. The recruits reportedly fell ill during the activity.

KDF said on-site medical personnel responded immediately and provided first aid before the affected recruits were rushed to Eldoret Regional Hospital for further treatment.

“Regrettably, they were pronounced dead despite concerted efforts by the attending medical team,” the statement said.

The military said the families of the deceased recruits have been informed and are being given the necessary support during this difficult time.

KDF also confirmed that investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
