    Three people including 3-year-old girl drown in separate incidents

    Three people drowned in three separate incidents in the country, police said.

    The victims included a three-year-old girl who drowned in an underground water tank.

    The first incident happened in Itabua, Embu County on March 2 where a body was found floating on river Rupingazi.

    The deceased was identified as Martin Mwangi, 46. Police suspect he slipped into the river and drowned as he crossed on a man-made wood bridge in the area. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

    In Murera, Juja, Kiambu County, a child had drowned in an underground water tank in a residential plot. The body of the three-year-old girl already retrieved from the said water tank by members of the public and lying in a supine position on the floor beside the tank.

    It was established that the deceased was playing with other children when she accidentally slipped and fell into the water tank which was not covered then. The body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy.

    In Lucky Summer area, Nairobi, one Nelson Maloba, 39 drowned in Nairobi River. The river is swollen due to heavy rains being experienced.

    The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

    Meanwhile, detectives are investigating the murder of a 45-year-old man whose body was found on the roadside in Othaya, Nyeri County.

    The body of one Peter Ngari was found on the road on March 2 long after his murder. The motive of the murder was not immediately known, police said.

    Police said the body had visible injuries in the head and back and was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

    Elsewhere in Magongo, Changamwe, Mombasa County, a 24-year-old man was killed in a fight at a drinking den. Police said Gabriel Ambasa was stabbed in the stomach. It is not clear what prompted the fighting.

    The deceased was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries days later, police said. Police visited the scene of the incident and arrested the said assailant for grilling for murder.

    Murder incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address the trend.
