At least two more youths sustained critical arrow injuries in the latest bout of skirmishes spiraling along the volatile Kiango area between Narok and Kisii Counties late Sunday.

The figure of those injured on Kisii side has now climbed past six even as tension grow.

Police said they had deployed more personnel to quell the skirmishes.

Villagers said fighting was still going by Sunday night making a mock of the night patrols by police.

More sugarcane farms were also torched in the revenge attacks by youth from Kiango side as skirmishes escalated into the night.

Kenyenya Deputy County Commissioner William Bet said the latest two victims were injured Sunday night.

“We are still monitoring the situation and so far we have called for more reinforcements of additional police officers to do patrols. By Monday more lorry loads of officers from both Counties will join in the surveillance to forestall further cross border raids, “he said by phone.

The skirmishes were reportedly triggered by a cattle theft incident Friday night at a homestead at Kiango area.

The warring youth from Bomachoge Borabu were said to had been especially incensed when they ran into hostile mobs in Transmara where hoof prints of the animals they were chasing after led them to.

Eiders from Transmara West have, however, agreed to recover the stolen cows and give back to security agencies by Monday March 3.

“For now let both sides indulge patience it is just one week,” stated Bet.

He urged chiefs to dissuade students who are at home for half term not to join the bands squaring it out in the border.

The administrator said they had also mobilized personnel to camp in the village for stability.

Such clashes are common in the area. They escalate whenever there is cattle rustling reported amid efforts to address the same.
