Police in Homa Bay arrested two men and recovered a range of items allegedly stolen during an attack and robbery at Homa Bay Tourist Hotel earlier this month.

The two suspects, were arrested on Saturday evening after police and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided a rental house in Homa Bay Town following a tip-off.

Police said the raid was part of investigations into the August 15 attack on Homa Bay Tourist Hotel, during which a group of organised goons allegedly vandalised the facility and stole various items.

This was ahead of a rally by the Linda Mwananchi brigade in the town. Clashes between two groups later on left at least five people dead and 50 injured.

Police are still investigating the drama amid claims of interference from the political class.

Among the items recovered during the raid were seven wooden hotel dining chairs, two blue high-density mattresses, a Homa Bay Tourist Hotel office stamp, a black rhino sculpture and an Alipu subwoofer music system fitted with three speakers.

Other recovered items included an Ecomax freezer, two wall clocks, five electricity extension cable sockets, a Panasonic telephone receiver, a motor vehicle air-conditioning component, a Safaricom Saji-Pro phone and three hotel bed sheets.

The suspects were arrested and escorted to Homa Bay Police Station together with the recovered items, which were booked as exhibits.

The two men were booked in connection with a charge of robbery with violence and were expected to be arraigned before the Homa Bay Law Courts on Monday.

The arrests mark a major development in investigations into the August 15 attack as detectives continue efforts to establish the identities and roles of other people who may have been involved in the incident.

The incident was condemned amid blame games. Police have also been accused of taking sides in the incident and others.
